The Best Places to Work Remotely on the Las Vegas Strip

As a product manager, even when you’re on vacation, you’re never really on vacation.

Recently I took a short trip to Las Vegas. A few hours after landing on a weekend, I could already see emails and messages backing up that needed a response. My hotel check-in wasn’t until 4pm, and surprisingly when I looked for the best places to get work done, nothing really jumped out to me at the top of the search results. There’s nothing more annoying then trying to search reddit and the comments all say “work from your room.”. Ya, if that was an option that would obviously be best, but sometimes you don’t have that option. As a person that likes to visit Las Vegas a few times a year, I compiled my own list and sharing it with the world below. Most of the suggestions won’t really be shocking, but when I look for places to get work done, I look for:

  • Somewhere where you can sit comfortably with your laptop on a table, not on the ground or with your laptop in your lap.
  • Somewhere somewhat quiet where you can focus on your tasks, but not calls. For calls the reality is there’s no place you will really find that’s good for any serious calls where you have to present.
  • Somewhere you can sit for a long period of time. Think 2 hours or more. This rules out restaurants where you have wait staff and they’re trying to turn tables. But casual lounges are a great place.
  • Somewhere not too crowded where you can keep an eye on your surroundings and all your belongings.
  • Somewhere you can sit with a screen protector and your screen semi obstructed and not have to worry too much about people looking over your shoulder.
  • Somewhere you can grab an appetizer or very light drink. You’re not going to get drunk, but an ice cold light beer definitely makes work more fun.
  • Somewhere free and close by to where I’m staying or where I want to be later, I don’t want to walk miles and miles or spend extra money to take an uber and pay for a wework type office. If I wanted to spend money I would splurge on early check in.

What’s not covered:

  • Power. Make sure your laptop is charged.

With all that said, the list below covers the strip and where I would sit for a few hours on an afternoon.

South Strip

Mandalay Bay/W Hotel - Rhythm & Riffs Lounge

This lounge is located right outside the convention center area, has tables and some spots you can sit without worrying too much about whats behind you. During the day it doesn’t get too crowded, though that may be different if there’s a convention going on. There’s also a waitress that will come by when I went.

Luxor - TENDER steakhouse + lounge

This place opens at 4:30pm so if it’s early in the day I may give this a try. I do not know for sure if they will let you sit here but the tables and seating looked good, it’s not blocked off, and it was a quiet during the day before they open. if I get kicked out, then go over to Mandalay Bay.

Excalibur/New York New York/MGM Grand – Skip

I looked, but did not see anything good at these places that meets my criteria.

Park MGM/Aria

Between Park MGM and Aria there’s a long walkway connecting these casinos indoors. I would not recommend sitting here for long, but in a pinch at least you’re sitting on a couch in an area without too much loud music.

Center Strip

Cosmo/Aria – Skip

Nothing jumped out at me here. Ordinarily I would check out the sportsbook area and any lounges nearby, but these sportsbooks are small and don’t offer good seating where someone may be looking over your shoulder.

Planet Hollywood – Sportsbook

If you’re there early enough during the day there’s places to sit with a table past the bar, and you can even sit in such a way where you’re your back is to a wall. I would say just buy one beer so nobody gives you a hard time.

Bellagio – Sportsbook

There were two high table tops with chairs on the far side of the sportsbook by the wall. I would try and sit there. While here might as well try a dollar slot.

bellagio

Paris – Sportsbook

The Paris sportsbook has some good table seating options in the back of the sportsbook. In a pinch, there’s also an empty unattended bar in the back right corner of the casino.

Caesars / Linq / Horseshoe / Harrahs – Skip

Skip all of these. No good options. I would have recommended the center bar at the linq, but the table tops are up so high everyone will see what you are doing. In a pinch and with a screen protector, maybe.

Casino Royale – Obviously skip lol

North Strip (This is actually where you will find some of the best options)

Treasure Island / Resorts World / Venetian - Sportsbook

This is effectively the same type of situation. The Treasure Island / Resorts World sportsbooks have good seating on the sides with tables and seating where you can have your back to a wall or at least not facing out to the world. The Venetian actually has a nice setup with lots of high tables but not as protected.

Resorts World rw

Venetian venetian

Wynn (Charlies) and Fontainebleau (The Tavern)

In both cases, these are lounges right in the sportsbooks with good seating. I saw someone working here as well, which validates this whole blog post. Get some food as well!

Speaking of food… while up that direction go ahead and go to Tacos El Gordo tacos
